What is the Palestinian Authority and what is its function?
The ANP was established in 1994, in accordance with the Oslo Accords between the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Government of Israel, as a transitional entity and for a period of 5 years after which final negotiations would take place between the two parts
On October 31, 2011, this figure was elected member number 195 of UNESCO, which admits Palestine as a full member.
This implies that its functionality consists of acting as a political-administrative bridge, until the achievement of a Palestinian Nation-State that allows them to provide themselves with an autonomous administrative structure, managed by an elected democratic Government and its own army that enables it to exercise their right to self-defense, both of their population and their territory.
This is and must be the true objective and meaning of the struggle for the liberation of the Palestinian people and no other.
However, as the sponsors of the pact between Israel and Palestine themselves recognize:
“The Oslo agreements are centered only on security and administrative matters, leaving aside what was truly important for the resolution of the conflict, which consisted of the institution of an autonomous Palestinian State.
"Israel benefited from the Oslo agreements to the extent that the other countries of the world saw in them the resolution of the conflict, with which Israel managed to give a diplomatic and democratic image while maintaining its control over the occupied territory."
An absolutely unsustainable situation and a totally unviable practice today, in view of the massacre committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, which has led the Israeli Government itself to be firmly charged by the International Court of Justice.
So, why do the US and Israel insist on reinforcing and prolonging the survival of the figure of the Palestinian Authority, despite it being provisional in nature and destined to give way to a Democratically elected Palestinian State Government?
For obvious political reasons and territorial interest, such as: guaranteeing Israel absolute control over the Palestinian territory facilitated by the high and growing degree of corruptibility and manipulation of the current Palestinian Authority that allows the state of the negotiations to be falsified and prolonged in order to reassure its own survival in office and, even if it is in fact illegally (let us not forget that Israel is officially a “Colonizing Power” sanctioned by the UN) prolonging, to do so, if necessary, the suffering under extermination genocidal fire of Israel and its American ally.
Going around in a circle, a relationship that has irremediably broken down, only causes a miserable gain of time for the powers involved; all at the cost of plunging the Palestinian people whose demands for justice and freedom are now unavoidable into a spiral of uncertainty and despair.
Since the first rounds of negotiations and the first attempts at Peace Agreements began, as happened during the “Oslo Accords” or the “Taba Summit”, the peace talks aimed to address the negotiations of the final status that would be put an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, not intentionally perpetuate attempts at negotiation with the aim of illegally supporting the settlements of Israeli settlers in Palestinian territory, which have already been condemned by International Law and, whose permanence in time has already been clearly delimited in time by the UN.
So what exactly is it supposed to be discussed then?
Peace is not a deal, but an obligation.
Israel is obligued and compelled by the international law to desist on its territorial ambitions and respect the human rights and properties of Palestinians.
Whoever who disobeys basic principles of humanitarian regulations: what are they supposed or pretended to deal in terms of “negotiation”?
Now enjoy the ceasefire, the releasement of prisoners and remember that, peace is a long- term statement; an international duty which is a responsibility of every part involved to maintain and keep always alive.
This is now the greatest opportunity for Palestinians to start running for Presidency and form a Government
Cheers
